The DMax has come a long way. Set up right they are very tough. With that comes a very high price tag. 24v is good but most guys are swapping the VP pump for a 7100 p-pump.

Depending on what class level you want to pull the dmax can be a top runner, especially in a stock turbo class. The transmission will be the biggest $ spent if you wanna go over pulling with a stock turbo and can still be a top performer in the bigger classes if set up right. All the brands have a big price tag to pull and be top.
24V's can run as well but it takes a different way of thinking to make them do well, but they can do very well!

For me.... It would a tough call between the Daramax and the P-pumped trucks.

Both will cost you 2 arms, a leg, and one.....you know.

No matter what it is, you will find a way to pop the sucker now and again and it will likely cost you $3500 to $5000 just to get it into a running engine again once you do machine work, but pistons/rings and bearing, gaskets... I've done it once.... or twice...

My favorite truck is the Ford Superduty. Not for sled pulling though! For a fun street truck with a tuner, intake and exhaust... the Ford is a great machine. Start getting into the big power numbers and cost goes up very fast compared to the Cummins. I suspect the Duramax has a similar costs to a Cummins Common Rail.

The 6.4 in due time will be at the top of a street /work stock class. It is boxed into a corner for big power to compete in upper classes because of the twin turbos. Not saying it can't or will not be done. Cost will limit it for a while.

I agree, the best I have done is 3rd place out of 9 in Michigan. TTPA only has one class and I am not setup with the rest of them yet. :dontknow:

Now my dad and I have a friend who bought a King Ranch with a powerstroke I believe its a 04 or 05? Brand new from the factory all he does with it is pull a gooseneck horse trailer once in a while only 30,000 miles I believe and he has had all kinds of problems hes had to replace the fuel pump injectors turbo and a few more things and he is still having problems now if the could fix the bugs I think it could be a great motor. Now I heard from the same guy that ford took over Cummins a few years back 04 I believe? Is that true? Gotta love that Cummins spool up

Ford has no ownership what so ever over Cummins. Ford at one time had purchased shares of Cummins stocks, but that was it. It is a internet rumor that gets perpetuated over and over.

I personally like my new 6.7L Cummins...best so far has been 3rd outta 17 with a 288ft pull. Not too shabby.
